Nightmares Go Away, Come Again Another Day!

Mr. H (my oldest child) has totally been struggling with nightmares lately.  He wakes up crying and screaming “I had a nightmare!”  My poor heart breaks cause it really is sad to see him SO SAD.

In an effort to nix the nightmares, we have tried a few things….

  1. As we put the kids to bed we “RAAAAAAARRRRRR” out the closest and under the bed. This scares those mean monsters away.  My boys love it.  They think I am so cool for doing it and it honestly puts them at ease.
  2. I think it is Supernanny who does this, maybe not though, but we get a spray bottle with some water and call it “monster juice”.  After a very liberal spray down of the room and things inside, the monsters are gone and the kids sleep peacefully.
  3. My husband came up with this idea.  I think it’s brillant.  He is so dang creative!  Me, not so much.  He was putting the boys to bed and they were being totally concerned about their nightmares and the monsters chasing them.  My brillant husbands brain was a-rolling.  Here’s what he came up with… ”well, how about you change the end of the dream.  Instead of the monsters getting you, you should turn into a superhero and chase the monsters away!”.  The boys both got HUMUNGO smiles on their faces and slept peacefully the ENTIRE night.  (Thank you  husband!)

There are tons of articles from doctors and experts on the subject, but I am kinda not the conventional “read the article and do what it says” type of mother (sorry mom…don’t hate).  These ideas worked for us and were fun and somewhat creative too.  If you guys have some more fun ideas, please share!
